K-Beauty Influencer Marketing in Indonesia: Our Campaign Guide

Sharing is caring!

Research updated: 9 October 2026. Written and reviewed by PONGO.

When we plan K-beauty influencer marketing in Indonesia, we start with a practical question: can this creator help the right buyer understand one product and find a reliable place to purchase it? A large audience is useful only when the content, language, offer and store work together.

This guide explains how we would shortlist Indonesian creators, separate paid content from affiliate and LIVE roles, and brief a first campaign. We also examine a public SKIN1004 case published by TikTok for Business. It is a historical example from 2023, not a PONGO client project or a forecast of your results.

What K-beauty influencer marketing in Indonesia involves

K-beauty influencer marketing in Indonesia connects Korean beauty products with Indonesian audiences through creator content. A campaign can combine product demonstrations, paid partnerships, affiliate links and livestreams. We recommend defining each creator’s role, the approved product claims and the purchase destination before negotiating deliverables or judging results.

For a Korean brand entering Indonesia, we would agree on one launch product, one audience question and one purchase destination first. “How does this texture fit into my routine?” gives a creator a clearer task than “make our brand go viral.” The answer should describe the product accurately without promising a skin outcome the brand cannot substantiate.

A public Indonesian example: SKIN1004 on TikTok

TikTok for Business’s SKIN1004 case study describes the Korean skincare brand’s Indonesian TikTok Shop activity beginning in March 2023. The account combines creator collaborations with video advertising, shopping ads, vouchers and LIVE sessions.

TikTok identifies two one-hour livestreams, hosted by @hansoljang110 on 20 May and @nastasiadelinee on 6 June. It reports roughly 6.4x return on ad spend for Video Shopping Ads and 4.3x for the later LIVE Shopping Ads activity. These are platform-reported advertising results, not profit after creator fees, commissions, fulfilment or returns. The page does not provide a complete attribution window or an independently audited campaign dataset.

We do not reuse its GMV growth headline: the English and Korean versions describe the comparison differently. Our takeaway is operational: creator content, live hosting, offers and paid distribution need coordinated ownership. This historical case does not establish current platform eligibility, either host’s availability or the return another brand should expect.

How we would shortlist Indonesian beauty creators

We would review recent content and ask for dated audience information before creating a shortlist. A public profile helps us understand presentation style; it does not confirm audience location, fees, purchase intent or availability. Keep those fields marked “unconfirmed” until the creator or their representative supplies evidence.

  • Audience fit: request recent country and city breakdowns, reporting dates and the platform used. Check that the audience overlaps with the locations your store can serve.
  • Language: assess how naturally the creator explains skincare in Bahasa Indonesia. Agree which Korean product names need pronunciation guidance and which terms need a plain local explanation.
  • Product fit: review demonstrations, routine explanations and relevant comment questions. Ask what the creator can honestly say after using the sample; do not script a positive personal experience in advance.
  • Format fit: assess short-video explanation and live hosting separately. Someone who edits a strong review may need a different brief and support team for a live Q&A.
  • Commercial fit: confirm fees, affiliate terms, competing-brand commitments, revision limits and permitted reuse. Put the approval process and reporting obligation in writing.

We prefer a shortlist that explains why each person fits a particular job. Our Malaysian K-beauty creator research shortlist illustrates that approach for a neighbouring market; it is not a substitute for Indonesian audience evidence.

Give paid creators, affiliates and live hosts different jobs

A paid creator may be hired to explain the product and deliver agreed content. An affiliate arrangement may include commission on attributed orders. A live host also needs to manage demonstrations, questions and the active offer. These roles can overlap, but we would confirm each one explicitly rather than assume that a video fee includes livestreaming or paid-ad permission.

For affiliate activity, agree how orders are attributed, when commission becomes payable and how cancellations or returns are handled. For paid distribution, confirm the asset, account permission, territory and usage period. Check available tools and eligibility in the current Indonesian seller and advertising accounts before making them part of the plan.

If you are comparing content-led promotion with livestreaming, our Shopee and TikTok live-shopping comparison gives additional planning context. Verify the current account-specific options before choosing the channel.

Check product information before approving the brief

We would ask the brand or local distributor for a product fact sheet covering the exact SKU, ingredients, directions, local pack, approved claims and selling entity. Match the product information against the official BPOM product lookup; it supports searches by product, brand, registration number and registrant.

If the campaign uses a halal claim, ask for the relevant certificate and check its product and company details through BPJPH’s official Cek Produk Halal service. We would not infer certification from Korean origin, a vegan description or an ingredient list. Product notification, halal status and advertising claims are separate checks; assign an owner to resolve each question before content approval.

Creators should explain their actual experience within the approved claim boundaries. Avoid editing a demonstration to imply a guaranteed result. Prepare a response sheet for questions about suitability, ingredients and certification, with a route back to the brand when the host cannot answer from verified information.

Our first-campaign brief: a template you can use

Copy these fields into the brief before requesting a quote. The examples describe a hypothetical pilot, not a completed campaign.

  1. Product and buyer question: name one SKU and the question the content should answer, such as where it fits in a routine.
  2. Audience and language: specify the intended Indonesian audience, serviceable locations and Bahasa Indonesia requirements.
  3. Content: define the format, demonstration, captions, disclosure, purchase link and delivery date. Include a sample script outline rather than a required personal endorsement.
  4. Claims: attach the approved fact sheet and evidence. List statements that need brand approval and identify the person responsible.
  5. Commercial terms: record the fee, affiliate basis, sample arrangements, revisions and cancellation terms.
  6. Rights: agree organic reposting, advertising use, territory, duration, editing permission and any raw-file delivery.
  7. Store and LIVE readiness: name the owner of stock, vouchers, product links, customer questions and fulfilment. For a livestream, also name the host and moderator.
  8. Acceptance and reporting: agree what counts as a complete deliverable, which account exports will be supplied and the date of the review.

How we would review the pilot

We would separate delivery quality from commercial performance. Content can meet the brief while generating few orders; strong sales can also hide expensive media or an unusually generous promotion. Keep a dated record of both.

  • Delivery: check the published asset, language, disclosure, approved claims, link, agreed rights and revision status.
  • Audience response: record the platform’s definitions of views, watch time, comments and clicks, with the reporting window. Review buyer questions as well as totals.
  • Orders: record attributed orders or GMV separately from cancellations, returns and net revenue. Do not treat a platform’s attribution report as proof of incremental sales.
  • Costs: show creator fees, affiliate commission, media, samples and other campaign costs separately. Advertising ROAS measures attributed advertising revenue against ad spend; it does not include every campaign cost.

For a next test, change an identifiable part of the campaign, such as the demonstration or offer, and retain the previous brief and report. We would scale only after reviewing stock, customer feedback, unit economics and the limits of the attribution data.

Questions we would settle before launch

Should we choose a large creator or a smaller specialist?

We would compare audience fit, relevant content, fees and the assigned role before follower count. A smaller creator can be a useful candidate for a specific routine or buyer question, but size alone does not establish engagement quality or sales performance. Ask for recent evidence and assess each candidate against the same brief.

Do we need Bahasa Indonesia content?

For a campaign aimed at Indonesian buyers, we recommend testing Bahasa Indonesia explanations and captions. Keep product naming accurate and check that the purchase page answers the same questions as the content. If the intended audience uses another language, confirm that choice with audience evidence rather than translate every asset mechanically.

Can we reuse a creator’s video in advertising?

Agree advertising rights and the required account permissions before using it. A paid post or affiliate arrangement does not, by itself, document the usage period, territory or editing rights. We would keep those terms alongside the approved asset so the media team can see exactly what it may use.

Bring the brief to your next planning discussion

For K-beauty influencer marketing in Indonesia, our starting point is a clear product explanation, a creator whose audience fits, and an accountable store team. If you want to discuss a campaign with PONGO, bring your SKU, market, selling setup and proposed deliverables to our contact page. We can use that information to clarify the work being requested and the evidence needed to assess it.
